Stick out tongue [:P] Too crowded in Phuket
Reply Quote

Was in Phuket 2 weeks ago and dived at Shark point and King Cruiser. There wasn't very much to see and there were more divers than fishes. Apparently, all the dive operators seem to go to the same spots daily. Ended up with at least 4 dive boats with at least 20 to 30 people on each boat.  It made the underwater experience very crowded indeed.

However, I must say that the dive operators were very professional and stressed a lot on safety. All in all it was OK but thought that it would have been better if there were lesser people.

Anyone with other experiences to share ?

Have you ever been to Koh Tao? Diving is not even all you can do there. And Phuket is not all that makes Thailand Smile [:)] The best time of the year for Koh Tao is from around christmas to end of April. Later in the year, end of July until late September is also a great time. Whale Sharks come along there in march-april and in late summer.

The infrastructure of Koh Tao or translated 'Turtle Island" is meanwhile near perfect. Banks, ATM's and loads of restaurants and bars from all nationalities. Party's going on a lot, like full moon partie's half moon parties, blackmoon parties and so on Party!!! [<:o)]

And if it's not enough you have an hour ride on the boat and you are in Koh Phan Ghan.

If you want a closer look, there are two places i can wormly reccomend Asia Divers Koh Tao at http://www.asia-divers.com and Blue Diamond Dive Resort at the south end of Mae Haad, the "City" of Ko Tao. their website is http://www.kohtao-scubadiving.com Nice people friendly and much much cheaper than Phuket, diving as well as eating out or renting a bungalow.

I hope to have given you an idea for your next scuba diving vacation.

If you have any specific question, don't hesitate to ask.

Best regards, lot's of air and big fish

George
