How to dive properly?
Reply Quote

When i first tried to dive, i couldn't  really go to the bottom of the sea bed. Got diffculity diving downwards properly.

Why is it like this? Is it because of the gear or tactics?

Saning,

It is pretty normal for new divers to have a problem descending, if your weighted correctly its usually just your breathing.  Remember back to your theory class....Boyle`s Law...the balloon thing...?

Air often gets trapped in you lungs as you descend the first 10 metres, this can have the affect of making you positively bouyant.  Past 10 meters the affect is much smaller because the change in volume of the air gets less.

Bottom line, try to breath out as much as possible when descending.  Also to make sure your BC really is empyt of air, use the dump valve as a doule check.

Good luck.

Hi Saning,

first of all - don't get frustrated by that "problem". Give your decent a bit more time - by meaning don't force yourself down to the bottom by finning. It's quite normal, specially for the fist dive of the day (your equipment is very dry) that the first decent - specially the first 5-10 meters takes a bit longer.

How manny weights you are using now and what's your wetsuit (3mm neoprene - long arms/legs?).

During the decent just concentrate on breathing while watching your deepth gauge (also don't forget to look down). It's all about practise -you will find it out very soon by yourself - just go diving ;)

I have started diving with 6kg !! and now I have enought with 2kg and still have the feeling 1kg would also do - so no worries, you will improve fast during you enjoy more and more dives.
