Wink [;)] Tioman diving
Reply Quote

Hi,

My name is Joshua. Just had my open sea diving certification three weeks ago at Tioman. It was my first diving experience and it is fasinating and awesome. The feeling of able to swim underwater and see the marine lives beneath the sea surface totally took my breath away (well actually I was breathing deeply). I saw big sea turtles and alot of colorful corals. And those eerie looking sea urchins. The water visibility, I think, is not as clear as Redang which I went for snorkling trip before my diving certification. All in all, I am glad to get my diving certification done and able to dive from onwards. I will go dive at different sites and see the various kinds of marine life.

Hope to know more diving friends too!

Hi Joshua,

nice too meet you and congratulations for your certificate Beer [B]. Tioman is indeed a nice place to stay for a dive-weekend. You should try out a liveabourd in the suroundings of Tioman - you will even get a bit more excited about some of the divesites a but further off the coast from the island. Redang is a nice location - I also was there beginning of this year. I have never seen so manny blue spotted stingrays before then in Redang. Also Tengoll is a very nice location for diving. Anyway - there are too many nice divesites in that part of the world and they are all waiting to become explored Big Smile [:D]

hmm i've not been diving since my last trip to sipadan in 2002. Anyway, i would say, sometimes the dive site in tioman is much2 nicer to explore especially at 'tiger reef', lighthouse reef or whatever. Why sometimes? hmm, that would when you hit the water with 40 - 50 feet visibility ++ strong current ++ termocline.

I dont know, but that was my experience when i met a friendly manta ray. play with her for roughly 20 minutes with 300psi at the end of my dive. Big Smile [:D]

Yeah, Alex, I agree with you. Liveaboard is a must try! Wink [;)] I went twice. My first trip was... ahahaha i logged 7 dives + 6 vomits after the 1st 2 dives!

cheers!!!

You shouldn't dive with a full stomach anyway - so what do we learn: vomiting is not a bad think ?

And 6 vomits after the 1st 2 dives shows that you are a very responsible diver. Big Smile [:D]

It keeps people entertained (these who are watching and concentrating themseflfes not to join the party) - and by the way: it also can attract some nice marine animals.Wink [;)]

Vomiting is still part of a lifeabourd experience - I am also into that (not that I am addicted to that - but it just happens once in a while).

We have had also a nice experience earlier that year - we went to a more remoted divesite off Tioaman - the boattrip was about 2 hours in one direction - and what happened - the engine broke down. And know guess what nearly everybody did ?- you know, just to keep the party on (boatman included by the way).

After a while we were surounded by a lot of nice colourful fishes.

And in the evening everybody was realy hungry Wink [;)]

Hi Dive,

I am living in Singapore. Of course we can form a group and get submerged together. My next dive trip is to Pulau Dayang (going for the practical part of my rescue Diver Lisence) on the 7th till 9th of Oktober. Interested in joining for a leasure dive ?

This is excellent! You guys are making the effort to form a club and go out diving together. Tioman sure brings back fond memories, this is where I got my Open Water Certification.

Yes - I agree. The accomondation in Dayang is very very basic but don't forget about the nice BBQ every Saturday evening. Ok - I have special memories with Dayang because I did my first dives there but in generaly I agree that Tioman is offering better dives (specially if you go for a livaboard).

By the way: does anyone knows the status about the plan to increase the airport at Tioman - that would have a very negative impact to the marine life I guess ?

Hi everyone!

This is my first time talking in a dive forum. Like a few of you, I obtained my open water certification and jus finished my advanced OW!! :) Quite happy as I'm jus so into diving. Really really enjoy diving a lot.

However, i took both my OW and AOW in Australia, as i'm studying in Aust @ the moment. So i've never experienced WARM waters yet...

How's Tioman like? Is it wonderful? Do u get to see lots of big colourful fish, plus reef sharks?? Australia's boring... jus sand and sea grass... :( prob cos i'm in the west side of Aust. haha! however, it has wonderful wrecks! i recently dived this battleship wreck and it was jus gorgeous!

newae, keep on with the dive talk! it's quite exciting to hear! tk care! :)
